Maruti Suzuki India had planned that it will call of the selling of Its Inspirational Car Model Maruti 800, which was largest sold car of India as well as in whole world. It will be called of from 13 Indian cities.
As there was need to upgrade the Engines of Maruti 800 to the new Euro -4 emissions standards. Also this model had seen a gradual fall in its sale since company announced the plans to phase out its older models.
Old Model Of Maruti 800 : Sales of Maruti 800 declined with 55% to 2,495 cars sold in January 2010 against 5570 Cars were sold in January 2009. These figures were officially released by Maruti Suzuki India.
Another news is coming out from the market that after calling of the older Maruti 800 a newer cheap and stylish model of this car will be initiated to sell in the Markets.
Also, Maruti Alto with 800 cc is pretty much Maruti 800, but with a newer design and a vastly different image. Maruti 800 has an "image problem" that does not make it appeal to the young car buyer; it is synonymous with the first car bought by the conservative family man who does not have much money to spend. Buying a first car today is all about enhancing one's social image and is a status symbol. Alto has replaced the 800 because it does not carry the burden of its image and is pretty much in the same price bracket.
I know that Maruti 800 is a not only a car, but it is a brand which holds considerable market share. Tata Nano is a new segment, which definitely caters attraction from low end consumers.
However, let's hope that the marque resurrects the Maruti 800 in future as a new classic, like the Volkswagen Beetle and the Mini Cooper. Until then, guys, it's time to bid adieu to the legend and treasure the nice memories. After all, the Maruti 800 will always live in our hearts and in the annals of Indian auto history, as a car that transfigured the way India moved.
