World's Cheapest SUV' - Duster
Dacia is showing its new 4x4 compact SUV, Duster, at the currently ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The Dacia Logan – sold as the Mahindra Renault Logan in India – has not been successful here, but the Duster definitely looks like a product which could do well in India, if Renault chooses to bring it to this market.
Based on the Logan platform, the Dacia Duster is available with a range of 1.6-litre petrol and two diesel engines (all of which come with a six-speed gearbox), and features optional 4WD. The small SUV rides on 16-inch wheels, features adequate ground clearance, the latest generation ABS from Bosch, ASR traction control and multiple airbags.
With the Mahindra Scorpio and Premier Rio being the only inexpensive compact SUVs currently being available in India, the Dacia Duster could do very well here. The vehicle comes with a three-year/100,000km warranty in Europe, which should also go down very well with Indian buyers.
The Duster will be launched in Europe, Ukraine, the Middle East and various African countries later this year. In 2011, the vehicle will also be launched in Russia and various South American countries. We believe that if Renault gets its act together in India and reviews its product portfolio, the Duster should be one of the first products the French company should be bringing to this market.

Rs.3crore car NOW in India ! Bentley "Mulsanne"
Bentley "Mulsanne"
The 2.9 crore beauty will be delivered to the Indian markets by October this year. “I think our expectations with Mulsanne has always been very strong. We don’t see the sales of the car but wait for its demand in the market. The moment I think would be strong we would probably be sold out, by the end of 2011,” said Chris Buxton the Bentley regional director.
The Mulsanne is a altogether revamped model and shares nothing with its forerunners. The Mulsanne will replace the aging Arnage in Bentley’s line-up, and will become the new flagship model. Fuel economy is claimed to have been improved by 15 percent compared to the Arnage along with a host of other changes and improvements in the engine, chassis, transmission and suspension.
“We will start global production of the Mulsanne in the second half of the year. We will produce 600 units of Mulsanne annually for the global market and the quota for India is yet to be decided. We have received global bookings even for the year 2011,” said Chris.
“India is the hub of luxury, the country of the former Kins who were the true supporters of custom-made luxury items. We have been getting cheering response from our valued customers and I think the launch of the Mulsanne will truly delight our loyal and discerning customers,” Bentley Regional Director (Middle East, Africa and India) Chris Buxton told journalists here.
The car is powered by a 6.7 litre V8 petrol engine, with a killer twin-turbocharged V8 Engine which delivers whooping 505 BHP power at 4200RPM and a superb torque of 1020 Nm. This powerful machine touches a speed of 100KMPH from 0 in just 5.3 seconds.

Tata Venture M P V
Tata Motors unveiled a multi purpose vehicle called the Venture targeting urban and rural customers.
The Tata Venture MPV, launched at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo is one of Tata Motors’ three launches at the Auto Expo. This Mini Van, based on the Tata Winger platform is suitably condensed to seat 5 to 8 passengers depending on the configuration. Codenamed the Pelican before it’s launch, the Venture MPV’s biggest strong point apart from it’s cavernous space is the engine it comes with. The Tata Venture MPV will share the tried and tested 1.4L Indica engine which produces 70bhp of peak power at 4500rpm and 135Nm of peak torque at 2500rpm.
The Indirect Injection, turbo charged and inter-cooled power plant will transmit power through a five speed transmission. This engine will propel the Tata Venture to an impressive top speed of over 125km/hr. Also, the Venture features slider doors very similar to that of it’s elder sibling Winger and the Maruti Omni. The Venture measures 3.9m in length, 1.5m in width rounded off by it’s 1.8m height. This will make the Tata Venture small enough to be bought by city slickers too while the cabbies will eagerly buy the Tata Venture which promises to be a great highway people mover.
The interiors too get a decent deal with with a two-tone beige and black theme along with dual heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) through the effective roof-mounted ducts. This, along with standard features like a power steering, power windows, reverse parking aid, keyless entry with engine immobiliser and rear wipers make the Tata Venture a feature rich MPV that drivers will love too. The Tata Venture’s safety features include a collapsible steering system and side impact beams. All these features makes the Tata Venture a compelling MPV to watch out for.

Nissan Murano - The SUV. Get ready to pay 40lacs
India seems to have been bitten by the SUV-bug, especially with the automobile companies launching them in succession. Now, Nissan, the Japan-based automobile giant, has announced its plans of launching its latest premium sports utility vehicle (SUV), Murano, in India. With the latest unveiling, the car-manufacturer intends to tap into the potential offered by the growing auto market of the country.
Nissan Murano is expected to be presented before the Indian consumers, in early 2009. It is said to have the launch price of Rs 40 lakh. With this price range, the latest SUV will come in direct competition with premium brands, like Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Toyota Prado, BMW X3 and Mitsubishi Montero. The best part of Murano is that it combines the lustrous appearance of a coupé with the powerful engine of a sports-car.

Chevrolet Cruze
The Chevrolet Cruze will be rolled out from the company’s Halol plant.
The Chevrolet Cruze is expected to compete with the likes of Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in the D segment, in the Indian market.
The Chevrolet Cruze will sport 15-inch wheels and a 2.0-liter diesel engine. However, the petrol variant will sport a 1.8 liter variable valve timing unit, and produce 130 HP. (The UK version of the Cruze offers 138 bhp – maybe the Indian one would too. Not sure right now.) The 2.0 liter diesel engine is likely going to be a 147 bhp beast. Even the Chevrolet Cruze’s 138 bhp petrol one would be a good match for the 138 bhp Civic in India. Chevrolet Cruze automatic to be launched soon
The car is said to be roomy and spacious with a large glovebox, big door bins, and excellent centre console storage. In the photos of the Cruze, the car looks like a more solid sibling of the Chevrolet Optra Magnum diesel we have in India.
Like the Opel Insignia, the switchgear, steering wheel, stalks and headlamps of the Chevrolet Cruze give it a stylish look. The audio and climate control layout is also impressive. Considering that the Chevrolet Cruze is positioned against the popular Honda Civic and Corolla Altis in India, I will go out on a limb here and say that the driver’s cockpit is actually better than the Civic’s! That should be something. The car comes with a unique one-of-its-kind dual cockpit treatment – exactly what it is, I haven’t figured out yet!
My opinion, based on the photos that we have seen so far, is that the exterior of the car is not as remarkable.
A multinational team at GM DAT in Korea is responsible for the Chevrolet Cruze’s exteriors and interiors of the car. The Chevrolet Cruze is the first car from GM to be based on its new, global Delta platform.
Mr.Karl Slym, President and Managing Director of General Motors India Private Limited, also mentioned that the company has already set up three service stations and is intending to expand to 10-15 more by the end of 2009.
This has been possible because of the company’s collaboration with state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL). The plan is to set up Chevrolet service stations across the PSU’s petrol and diesel retail outlets.
Talking about the tie-up, Karl Slym said,”Reason for tieing up is the high-end customer service offered through its ‘V-Care’ initiative and the need to set up quick service stations, which do not require customers to leave their vehicles at the stations.”
GM is soon to set up a new powertrain facility at Talegaon and will be investing US$210 million for the same. Initially, the annual capacity of the plant will be 1,60,000 units. The plant will manufacture 1-1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines at the plant.

Mahindra Promises Diesel Hybrid Pickup by 2010 for U.S.
Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will shake up the U.S. truck market next year when it introduces a new midsize pickup called the Appalachian sporting a 2.2L four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 150 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque. Speaking with Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com, John Perez, the CEO of Atlanta-based importer Global Vehicles U.S.A. that's aiding Mahindra's entry into the U.S. market, revealed that the truck will deliver 30 to 35 miles per gallon and cost in the mid-$20,000 range. It will be paired with a six-speed automatic that's controlled via a floor-mounted shifter or paddle shifters, have a class-leading payload of 2,600 lbs. and feature a 60,000-mile, four year bumper-to-bumper warranty.
If that's not enough to strike fear in domestic and import truck makers alike, Mahindra has also revealed plans to sell a diesel hybrid version of its pickup by 2010. If it happens, the diesel hybrid Appalachian will be, as far as we know, the only diesel hybrid on sale in the U.S. market and achieve fuel economy figures even higher than its diesel-only counterpart. Imagine a midsize pickup in the low-$30,000 price range capable of 40+ mpg.
The Appalachian has yet to go through U.S. certification for emissions and safety, but the company is spending $80 million to ensure its truck passes with no issues. After that, production will begin in India, but the trucks will finish assembly at a plant in Ohio to avoid high import taxes. After that, customers can visit a 300-strong dealer network with 24 standalone dealerships, one of which is already under construction.
The diesel-only truck will use a slightly modified version of Mahindra's recently introduced 'mHawk' 2.2-liter inline four cylinder diesel engine, that debuted in India in the Scorpio SUV.
Mr. Perez has previously stated the diesel-only pickup would start at $22,000.

It is the successor to the RX-7 and, like its predecessors in the RX range, it is powered by a rotary engine. The RX-8 began North American sales in the 2004 model year. Development of the RX-8 can be traced to as far back as the 1995 Mazda RX-01 concept car, which featured an early iteration of the 13B-MSP engine. Naturally aspirated with side exhaust ports, this engine produced 220 hp (160 kW). As prohibited by Mazda's financial state at the time and the growing market interest in SUVs, the RX-01 never saw further development or production. However, a "skunkworks" engineering team within Mazda kept the development of the 13B-MSP alive using MX-5 Miata chassis, eventually catching the attention of management, which at this time had come under heavy influence from Ford. Development of the 13B-MSP advanced and eventually led to the RENESIS moniker debuting along with the RX-EVOLV concept car which began to bear semblance to the production RX-8 with the "freestyle" doors. Styling was developed via design competitions in Mazda tradition among its design studios in Japan, the US, and Europe.

Mercedes-Benz launches 2010 M-Class
Mercedes-Benz today unveiled the 2010 M-Class in two variants for India - the Sports and Luxury edition loaded with features that can get your eyes hooked.
“The M-Class has been a popular model series in India. The “Sports Edition” and the “Luxury edition” are very aggressively priced considering the loadings and features of this marque. We are confident that customers who expect highest standards from their vehicles will find the M-Class a vehicle that exceeds their expectations- both on and off the road,” said Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India during the launch.
The M-Class (Luxury & Sports) SUV is equipped with seven airbags, belt tensioners, belt-force limiters and crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraints. The M-Class is the first vehicle in its market segment to be fitted with the anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE. Skoda Roomster
The Skoda Roomster is MPV which is expected to be launched in India .The exact date of lunch is not conformed yet but sources say that the launch could be anytime in 2009. The cross over Roomster is expected to come with a 1.2,1.4,1.6 petrol engine. The Diesel engine could be 1.9 turbo charged engine which now powers the Skoda ocatavia. While the petrol engine could be a bit noisy the diesel engine is quite docile. The steering is light and the turning circle which is tight offers to give a very pleasurable driving experience.The outer body has a BMW look with a flame like finishing and lot curves defining the exterior. The outwardly pushed wheel gives more ground clearance and a firm feel to the car.
The all new Skoda Roomster is expected to have 1.4 liter petrol engine which is one of the best selling engines, along with 1.2 and 1.6 liter petrol ones. On the other hand, the 1.9 liter turbo diesel readily offers strong pull and flexibility. You may also find 70 and 80 bhp 1.4 diesels. However, in India it is largely expected to inherit its1.9 liter 90 bhp diesel engine from Octavia.
The grandness of the exterior doesn’t exactly convert into the interiors. Overall the car is big on space and competes among the biggies in its class.The safety features are by no means comprised. The Roomster has passed pedestrian tests. The all new Skoda Roomster is expected to have 1.4 liter petrol engine which is one of the best selling engines, along with 1.2 and 1.6 liter petrol ones. On the other hand, the 1.9 liter turbo diesel readily offers strong pull and flexibility. You may also find 70 and 80 bhp 1.4 diesels. However, in India it is largely expected to inherit its1.9 liter 90 bhp diesel engine from Octavia.
The grandness of the exterior doesn’t exactly convert into the interiors. Overall the car is big on space and competes among the biggies in its class.The safety features are by no means comprised. The Roomster has passed pedestrian tests. The car sports child seat mountings and with two airbags for the driver.Curtain airbags come as an option.The steering is two way adjustable along with the seats providing better conditions for the driver . The dashboard projects forward giving ample visibility . The thick pillars proves a bit troublesome to view the nose.
The seats at the rear can be removed for additional luggage space. The seats are a tad heavy to handle . Seating for three is amply provided. Cruise control is available in higher versions.The car lacks rear speakers and is loaded with electronic windows and othercommon features. Tata Motors unveiled its ‘Aria’, a cross-over between a multi-utility and sports utility vehicle, 2010 but it is not disclose when it will commercially launch Aria.

Ambassador AVIGO
Hindustan Motors Limited (HML) is gearing up to launch another variant of its old warhorse. Last month saw the company take the wraps off a cosmetically revised Ambassador which goes by the Avigo name. HM plans to launch the car selectively in certain cities to begin with in this month before spreading all over the country in a phased manner once the car is accepted and suppliers can ramp up their deliveries.
The Avigo retains the Ambassador's distinctive silhouette, but there are quite a few changes incorporated both in the interiors and exteriors to give the car a more contemporary look. The new grille looks elegant with chrome trimmings, while the bumpers come in body colours. The headlamps are new and so are the tail lamps. The prismatic reflectors in the headlamps offer brighter light. The side indicators introduced in the Grand have been retained. The boot has a new look number plate surround and there is now a new design of tail lamps which has been incorporated.
However the most important style change on the car concerns the new rounded bonnet which dispenses with the fluted crown for the first time in almost half a century! The effect of this along with the new large headlamps is pretty pleasing. Rounding off the exterior treatment is the use of alloy wheels which come as standard fitment.
One look at the interiors and you can make out that there is an entirely new dashboard which is pretty much in keeping with the retro stance of the exterior. The mid-mounted instrument panel is dominated by a centrally placed large dial speedometer which is flanked by a temperature gauge and a fuel level gauge on either side as also the vents for the air con. It is a neat rendition of the original and goes with the character of the car.

The engines meet the Bharat II emission norms.
The Avigo will be available in seven different colours - Thurston Grey, Kilder Green, Crystal White, Magic Black, Symphony Gold, Symphony Silver and Cherry Red. However in keeping with its slightly upworldly stance, HM has priced the Avigo higher than the Grand.
